Urbanized typeface

Started in summer 2008, the work "Urbanized Typeface" of graphic designer Takahiro Yamaguchi is the combination of the production of an experimental font and a multimedia installation. The process here is the heart of the project, that of creating signs in the city (the Shibuya district is in Tokyo City) following a predefined map, armed with a GPS data which determine the alphabet, and a subjective camera.
Take the size of the project : using a keyboard, you type the letter and it displays the same time the video of the course and its mapping. Each sign takes between 2 and 3 hours to do and it’s continue today with punctuation marks. The choice of a capital Roman alphabet was imposed by the simplicity of forms unlike signs hiragana, one component of the Japanese alphabet.

Now in Typologic exhibition and ICC Open Space 2009.
